One can dream of an ideal world where a uniform measurement and sizing standard would lead us into a new era of peace and tranquillity, but then the market couldn’t capitalize on confusion.
My preferred way to purchase shoes is to see my local retailer and cobbler. We have a decades-long, multi-generational relationship with them. I buy shoes from the children of the people my parents bought shoes from. They can not supply all types of shoes, but their dress and professional shoes are handcrafted to perfection. This is not cheap, but the shoes last a long time and I support friends in local businesses.
Individual brand stores advertise more selection within their brand and factory discounts. What I have experienced is limited availability in sizes. Maybe you feel the same way, but when I go shopping, I want to know they will have what I want.
Department retailers carry more brands and also sacrifice size accessibility issues. Rarely will there be some for that department with specified training. You are on your own.
