    Technological Advancements To Prevent DWIs

Even though driving while intoxicated is considered a misdemeanor in many states, it can lead to a harsher penalty. Besides the possible punishment you may face, a life may also be at stake. Thankfully, there are a few technological advancements that can help prevent DWI.

    Self-driving cars

Self-driving technology has gained popularity in the last decade, with some cars being able to park while others have full driving autonomy. It has proven to be helpful in reducing drunk driving after events. There are also self-driving taxis in some states for those who want privacy. Risking the drive home after taking a few bottles could land you in trouble, and you’ll need the services of a DWI lawyer in Austin, Texas.

    Car hailing

Car-hailing services are not new, and they are more accessible than ever. Their apps even make it possible to schedule a trip ahead of time. So, even if you’re inebriated, you can still find a safe ride home instead of endangering the lives of innocent people.

Another good thing about the service is that rides are available round the clock. So even if you’re out drinking until 2 am, you can find a safe ride home.

    Interlock sensors

Some more advanced technology prevents drivers from gaining access to their cars while inebriated to reduce the chances of an accident. Such cars use sensors to create a foolproof system that prevents a drunk driver from putting the car on and driving it.

It works in a variety of ways depending on the sensors. Some are able to check blood alcohol content through the steering wheel. Others may monitor breathing, eye movements, or behavior that points to intoxication.

If the sensors detect any unusual alcohol level, the vehicle will not respond regardless of how much the driver tries. It is a perfect solution to monitor teenagers who are most likely to drive drunk. It also works well for companies that want to prevent costly lawsuits in the future.

    Fail-safe systems

Cars aren’t the only vehicles that could put a person at risk if they use while intoxicated. Heavy machinery also counts. Just like the interlock sensors, there are systems that have an inbuilt breathalyzer. This failsafe system uses the breathalyzer to analyze the blood alcohol levels of the operator. If it is higher than the required amount, the key of the machine will remain stuck.

The only way the key would budge is if the operator passes the breathalyzer test. This type of innovation would be handy for industries where a simple mistake can turn deadly.

    GPS tracking

While GPS tracking isn’t new, it is a valuable tool for preventing driving while intoxicated. Several apps today make it possible to share your location with friends and family to pick you up when you cannot drive home.

With real-time tracking, the GPS can provide accurate information even if you move from one place to another.

In the near future, we expect more advances in technology to solve the problem of DWIs. Who knows, it could be robot drivers or AI chauffeurs.
